German National Championship in Dresden

On the weekend of May 13th and 14th, the 27th German National Championships in Cheerleading and Cheer Dance took place in Dresden. More than 1,700 athletes from all over Germany competed at the Margon Arena in various categories.  The championship also served as the qualification for the European Cheerleading Championships in Zagreb, Croatia and the Cheerleading World Championships in Takasaki, Japan.

The championship took place over two days.  On Saturday, Cheerleading U14 was one of the focal and on Sunday the focus moved to Cheer Dance including the youngest age category “PeeWee”. In categories with more than six starters, there was an additional final in which the best five competed again for the first places.

On Sunday, Mr Falk Scheibe-In der Stroth from the German Dance Sports Association (DTV) visited the German Championship all day to learn more about the operation of the competition.  In a discussion with Dr. Peter Lames, the responsible mayor for sports of the city of Dresden, local conditions were explained.

The leaders of the German Cheerleading Association (CVD) were very satisfied with the course of the event, and the participating clubs also gave substantial praise to the Dresden Monarchs e.V., which were the local organizers this year.

A special highlight of the event was the participation of the reigning Cheer Dance world champions, Dance Deluxe from TSV Rudow. With victory in Dresden, the team secured their participation in the European Championship and also the chance to defend their World Championship title in November.
